I have recently been appointed to chair the review into Athletics Australia (AA). Working alongside fellow Review Panel members Matt Favier, Lynne Williams, Mark Bartels and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, we are required to deliver a first draft report to the ASC prior to Christmas 2014.

I am soon to renew my association with rugby league with a look into the officiating of the game. My connection with the game began as a young fella, sitting at Lang Park with my father witnessing a thrashing of Queensland by NSW in the annual interstate clash. Not sure the year, but with players like Irvine, Cleary Gasnier, Langlands, and no doubt a few Queensland boys wearing the Blues colours in those days, the ‘local’ Maroons had little chance. However, the game was memorable to me Queensland’s No 6, Johnny Gleeson intercepted around the 25 and managed to be chased down by Irvine & Cleary just on the tryline to record Queensland only points for the game. But the crowd stood as one cheering on, and willing on Gleeson to make the try – it was as if Queensland had won the game!
